Laparoscopy Surgical Course
Laparoscopy class in the Earle Hall Classroom

Laparoscopy Surgical Course

Many of our residents are eager to explore opportunities to research. As a part of the Science & Health LLC, students can apply to participate in our Earle Hall exclusive laparoscopy lab. This opportunity is a unique, one-of-a-kind class where students can learn the practical aspects of laparoscopy through medically-relevant curriculum.

Baylor Laparoscopy functions as a student-led course under a two-semester curriculum. In the first semester, TAs expose students to the field of laparoscopy through certified surgical lecture material redesigned to accommodate the knowledge base of Baylor freshmen.

Students also get to train on their own laparoscopic surgical box with which they gain proficiency in the same exercises used by surgical residents. Students proficient in their knowledge of lecture material and practical box capabilities earn Baylor’s “Certificate of Undergraduate Laparoscopy,” the only one of its kind in the nation.

Clinical Skills Course

The goal of the clinical skills course is to motivate and ignite a deeper passion in students for their future careers in the healthcare field. This course provides an exciting, incredibly unique glimpse into the future of Baylor University’s next generation of doctors and healthcare professionals.

In fall of 2021, the clinical skills program was first created and offered as a three-week workshop series. This program was originally designed to expose students to the fundamentals of surgical knowledge and develop competency in practical surgical skills.

The clinical skills experience is currently offered as a one-credit-hour course for students residing in Earle Hall and covers a variety of topics such as phlebotomy, conducting a patient history, suturing, and more.

Academic Seminars

At the Science and Health LLC we offer our students academic seminars, panel discussions, research presentations, and prehealth advising workshops to help prepare our students for their future. Through these experiences, students gain practical knowledge, cultivate their intellectual curiosity, and develop the confidence to navigate complex challenges, ultimately shaping them into well-rounded, forward-thinking leaders in their respective fields.
